Images Shouldn't Be an Afterthought

Before someone ever calls you, emails you, or walks through your door, they have probably already formed an opinion about your business.

I do it too.

If I am looking for a dentist, lawyer, restaurant, travel advisor, or really any business, I look them up first.

Within seconds, I already have a feeling about them.

Do I trust them? Do they look professional? Do they seem to know what they are doing?

Studies have shown that we form first impressions in a fraction of a second. Have you ever looked up a business online and immediately had a feeling about them?

I think most of us do it every day, whether we realize it or not.

The Part That Surprises Me

What surprises me is how much time and money we put into building our businesses, yet the images representing that business often get very little attention.

We work on our websites, our marketing, our services, and our customer experience. We invest in the things that help our businesses grow.

Yet when it comes to the photos people see online, they are often whatever happened to be available at the time.

An older headshot that no longer looks like us. A photo cropped from somewhere else. A quick snapshot taken because it was convenient.

Or sometimes a stock image that could belong to almost any business.

Meanwhile, those images are often one of the first things a potential client sees.

Before they know anything about your experience or the quality of your work, they are already reacting to what they see.

That disconnect has always fascinated me.

What Are People Seeing?

When I land on a website where the visuals feel outdated or thrown together, I start wondering.

If this is how they present their business, how much care goes into everything else?

That may not be completely fair, but I think most of us do it.

The opposite is true as well.

When a business looks current, professional, and intentional, it creates confidence.

And that first impression happens long before anyone ever picks up the phone.

So What Impression Are You Leaving?

Before someone contacts you, they have already started forming an opinion about your business.

The question is whether your images support the quality of your work—or whether they have become an afterthought.

Take a look at your website, LinkedIn profile, and social media through the eyes of a potential client.

Do your images reflect where your business is today?

If not, it may be time for a refresh.

Let's set up a quick consultation—it's on me.
