What does "branding" really mean?
We hear the word everywhere. It can feel a little mysterious or unreachable for a small business owner. But I didn't fully get it either until I started this photography business journey of mine.
Let's simplify it. The best way to tackle "Personal Branding" is to create something practical that works for you every day: A Visual Library.
What is a Visual Library?
A Visual Library is a collection of images that tell the full story of your business.
Whether you are a financial advisor, CPA, lawyer, painter, landscaper, or plumber, you have competition. What makes you stand out? Why should someone choose you?
In the end, it often comes down to: Do they trust you? Do they like you?
The "Double Take" Problem
We have all seen it. You look up a business online, see a photo, and then meet the person in real life... and you have to do a double-take. They look nothing like their photo.
Maybe they are using a cropped cell phone picture from a wedding 20 years ago. Maybe the photo is blurry.
I am a pretty straightforward person, so I will be honest: How can anyone build trust with a photo that isn't true? If your photo is outdated, you are starting your client relationship with a little white lie.
In this digital world, people "meet" you online before they ever shake your hand. If your website has no pictures of people, or uses generic stock photos, it feels empty. Especially for small business owners, the business is the person.
You need a reason for people to stay on your website. You need to show the professionalism behind the business.
One objection I hear is, "But I don't have a perfect office," or "I don't have time to travel to a location."
That is where I come in. We build the library you need, regardless of the location.
Below are a few examples of some of my sessions. Some of these were taken on-location or at a business, and others were taken right here in my studio using composite techniques to create the perfect background.
The Studio Magic: Sometimes we need an outdoor vibe or a specific office look. What if we don't want to battle the Texas humidity? For some of the images above, my client never left the A/C. We created that look in the studio.
The "Anywhere" Professional: Other times, we work on-location or in simple settings to capture a specific mood. The goal is always the same: to make you look high-end and approachable, no matter where we are shooting.
A Visual Library is everything because it gives you tools. You can’t use the same headshot for every single post. You need variety to keep people interested so they don't get bored seeing the same image.
Your Headshot: For your "About Me" page.
Action Shots: For your services page.
Detail Shots: For magazines, social media backgrounds, flyers, and sales offers.
A Visual Library covers you for everything—from major milestones to daily ads.
1. The Magazine Feature: We created the first set of images specifically for a feature in Forbes and Fortune Magazine. No tricks, just authentic on-location work ready for the global stage.
2. The Daily Ad: Below that, see how a Business Coach uses his custom library to stop the scroll on LinkedIn.
From the newsstand to the news feed, your library has you covered.
I think creating these images should be fun! But I also know you need guidance on how to show up.
As a photographer, I don’t just show up and press a button. I visit your business (or we meet in the studio) and we talk about your vision. I need to understand the person who hires me to create a visual library that truly represents you.
